Therapeutic Sports Massage

Providing Relief From Wear and Tear, Relieving Stress and Improving your Confidence in Movement.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic massage technique that focuses on reaching the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue (fascia) to address chronic tension, muscle stiffness, and injury recovery.

How It Works:

  • Uses slow, firm pressure and deep strokes with fingers, knuckles, elbows, or forearms.

  • Targets areas of chronic tightness, scar tissue, or muscle adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue).

  • Often focuses on specific areas of concern rather than a full-body approach.

Benefits:

  • Relieves chronic muscle pain and tightness

  • Breaks down scar tissue and adhesions

  • Improves posture and mobility

  • Aids recovery from injuries (e.g., strains, sprains)

  • Reduces stress and tension held in the body

Deep tissue massage can feel intense, but it should never be painful. Good communication between the therapist and client ensures the pressure is effective without being overwhelming.

Trigger Point Relief

Trigger Points, as defined by Dr Janet Travell, is "a hyperirritable locus within a taut band of skeletal muscle, located in the muscular tissue and/or its associated fascia".

How It Works:

  • A therapist locates the trigger points through palpation (feeling for tension or tenderness).

  • Pressure is applied directly to these points using fingers, knuckles, elbows, or tools.

  • The goal is to release the muscle tension, improve blood flow, and reduce referred pain (pain that radiates from the trigger point to other areas).

Benefits:

  • Reduces chronic muscle pain

  • Increases range of motion

  • Improves posture and alignment

  • Helps with conditions like tension headaches, sciatica, or fibromyalgia

Trigger point therapy can be intense at times, especially when working on active trigger points, but it often provides significant relief for clients dealing with chronic or recurring muscular pain.

Increasing Flexibility and Improving Mobility

Flexibility and mobility training is essential for improving the body’s range of motion, reducing stiffness, and enhancing overall movement quality. By incorporating targeted stretches, joint mobility exercises, and movement patterns, this type of training helps prevent injury, supports better posture, and improves performance in both daily activities and physical fitness. Whether you're recovering from muscle tension, looking to increase athletic performance, or simply aiming to move more freely, flexibility and mobility work creates a solid foundation for a stronger, more balanced body.
